LAURA HUNTLEY, CPA
I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia and graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania School of Business with a degree in accounting. I began my career with a large and reputable CPA firm in audit, progressing quickly to a senior accountant and already supervising certain smaller engagements. A few years later, I joined a publicly traded telecommunications giant as Manager of Corporate Financial Reporting. I supervised a staff of 5 to consolidate financial statements for 15 subsidiaries/divisions, preparing SEC quarterly and annual reporting, drafting footnotes for the annual report, performing variance analyses for reports to the board and upper management. I had the opportunity to serve on the acquisition team for major company purchases to assist in assimilating their reporting and procedures into the existing structure. In addition, I helped write a financial policies and procedures manual.
After several years and starting a family, I started my own CPA firm, helping smaller businesses with choice of entity, assistance in finding funding, installation and operation of accounting software, tax strategy, tax returns and other filings for about 10 years. Then, our family relocated to the Baltimore, MD area, so I joined a mid-market multi-faceted CPA firm and was promoted to Manager within six months. My experience expanded into a variety of industries including auto dealerships, wholesale and distribution, professional services, and real estate entities and with greater scope and complexity. My success propelled me to the international CPA firm of KPMG where I quickly rose to Senior Manager.
Experienced in financial services, real estate, residential and commercial, ecommerce, I have augmented my significant tax background with management roles in the accounting and reporting space. Recently, as CFO of a start -up auto collision center group with 7 locations, I lead the transition of their outsourced cash method accounting and reporting to their own cloud-based QuickBooks Enterprise solution, implemented a full accrual basis closing schedule, established processes and procedures for a solid infrastructure to foster continued growth, proper cash and debt management. Recruited by Resources Global Professionals (RGP), I joined a new and very high-profile client project for an ecommerce company that grew from zero to $400 million annual revenue in less than two years, through a series of rapid multi-channel brand acquisitions. I facilitated the transition of their outsourced accounting and reporting to a newly hired internal client accounting team. I also helped streamline accounting and reporting, allowing their team to accelerate the monthly close from 20 to 7 days in short order. I assisted with specifications for an ERP system and customized the current QuickBooks Online tools pending full implementation.
My superpower is applying “nuggets” from my myriad of experiences across numerous industries and uses of technology to help optimize accounting and reporting for fast paced and driven startup companies to help them achieve growth and profitability.
When I am not working, you will find me at my favorite Club Pilates studio enjoying a full body and soul workout or spending time with my friends or adult children and their families outside in the lovely North Carolina or Maine weather. I am so passionate about the benefits of Pilates for rehabilitation of injuries, improvement of posture and balance, I have completed 75% of a 500-hour instructor certification program.
